Music lovers in Buckinghamshire are being urged to visit their local Barnardo’s shop to snap up a record number of CDs that have been donated to the charity as part of the Blue Peter Disc Drive.
The Barnardo’s storesin the Chilterns include: Chalfont St. Peter – 3A Market Place and Gerrards Cross – 62 Packhorse Road
So far, the appeal has generated an amazing 500,000 discs, including CDs, DVDs and computer games and now Barnardo’s is calling on people to get to their local shop to disc-over the treasures in store. Funds raised from sales of the discs, will help to fund the charity’s work with young carers – children whose lives are dominated by having to care for a sick or disabled parent or sibling.
Barnardo’s Retail Manager, Chris Judd, explains: ‘The Disc Drive has been incredibly successful in terms of donations, now we need to get people into our stores to turn these discs into cash for our young carers projects. When it comes to music, one man’s trash is another’s treasure, and there are some absolute gems in our stores. I would urge music fans to come down and have a look at what’s in store.’
Its not only local residents who have dusted off their discs for the appeal, many famous names have also donated including Madonna, Kylie, Ricky Gervais, Ashley Cole and Ryan Giggs. Gordon Brown has shown his sensitive side by donating a Baby Beethoven CD, while David Cameron displayed his music credentials with a Radiohead album. Who knows, perhaps one of these famous donations will turn up in your local shop?
Barnardo’s believes that the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children deserve a better start in life and the chance of a better future. Barnardo’s works with approximately 115,000 children, young people and their families in over 394 specialised projects in local communities across the UK. This includes work with children affected by today’s most urgent issues: poverty, homelessness, disability, bereavement and abuse.
